About Dagara Divinations
-
Divination as the art and science of communicating with spirit beings or realms beyond our own to help us lead our best lives.
The Dagara stick divination practice relies on a diviner’s relationship with spirits known as the keepers of the wild and a series of objects in a diviner’s kit, while a voice divination is a channeled experience in collaboration with water spirits.
Every culture around the world and throughout time uses divination. A fun taste can be found here: Exhibition explores divination techniques from around the world

The Dagara people come from West Africa, areas today that fall within the borders of Burkina Faso and Ghana. You can find more about the incredible and enduring traditions of the Dagara people, and our community’s work to help preserve it, at https://www.zangala.foundation/

A divination starts with an invocation of our ancestors, elemental beings, and helper spirits. A series of medicine pieces in my kit will come forward to speak and offer insight and rituals for you to complete.

Speak your prayers into a quarter. Find the places in your heart and being that feel stuck, frustrated, hopeful, curious, yearning and speak into them! Bring the quarter and a notepad and something to write with to our session.

This animist tradition relies on our relationships with our spirit helpers. To build these relationships, we are often asked to make offerings: ash, water, spirits (alcohol), milk, sweets, flowers… and many other items as revealed during a divination. Empowered by these offerings, our spirit teams can more effectively help us open the way. You may also be prescribed meditative or self-care rituals. Either way, ritual is a beautiful opportunity to physically digest what we are going through - to make real the insights gained and practice speaking prayers.
You will leave a divination with five or so distinct ritual prescriptions with specific instructions. It is best to complete them within three weeks of your divination. I am available if you need to check in on details or need more guidance as you’re completing your offerings.
